Karen’s paintings works reflect her physical and emotional response to the countryside and to industrial and historic Greenwich where she lives. Her paintings have a free and expressionistic quality, they reveal the ever changing River Thames ebbing and flowing along the wharves and the light of the meridian line shining out as dusk begins to fall. All imagery is ‘of the moment’. It is gathered outside while walking with a sketch pad, feeling the blowing of the wind, the chill or warmth in the air, watching the landscape as light and the weather changes throughout the day and then into night. Karen spreads large areas of paper on rough ground, drawing and painting with ink using reed pens that she cuts from growing reed beds. The paper often can be blowing in the wind, tear and even have rain shower the paper. These images are later worked into etching plates.

Paintings £90 upwards. Etchings £55 to £400, plus postage and packing.
All etchings can be supplied framed or unframed.

Etching prints are produced in numbered editions, 2/50 means this is the second print of a limited edition of 50 prints, after which the etching plate is destroyed. A/P means artists proof.

Studied at Goldsmiths School of Art, London, Karen has exhibited widely within the UK, Europe and the USA.

An example of works available:

‘Meridian Moonlight’ painting is the classic view of the Naval College, Maritime Museum and Canary Wharf from Greenwich Park. But with a twist – painted after dark when the meridian line is beamed across the river by a green laser from the Observatory, only in the middle of winter is the park still open after dusk and the view seen in this way. £480

‘Greenwich Meridian Sky’ and ‘Wren’s Dome’ both look up to icons of historic Greenwich architecture with the green laser of the meridian line beaming across the night sky. £90 SOLD

The ‘Thames’ series of paintings invites the viewer to experience what a winter dusk by the river feels like in industrial Greenwich. £270 each

‘Cormorant’s eye view’ shows a cormorant, often seen around the power station – standing guard just like a sentry, looking upstream of the river Thames, undaunted by the river traffic and its urban surroundings. £270 SOLD
